Hi Everyone
This afternoon I birded along Kerwin Road and Riddell Road north west of Kanata. The conditions were excellent for hearing, no wind, a beautiful calm late afternoon. I walked along Kerwin Road between house # 800 and #900 and had 2 female Three-toed Woodpeckers. Both individuals were quietly tapping on spruce trees. Along the public trail I had a male Black-backed Woodpecker about 100 metres in on the right. I also tracked down 3 Pileated, 2 Hairy and 1 Downy, all by hearing their tapping. There was a lone male White-winged Crossbill calling from atop a spruce tree. The only other birds were Common Raven, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Blue Jay and Black-capped Chickadees. The snow depth is still less than 1 inch in most areas around Ottawa.
                                               good birding
                                           Bruce
