Around 9 a.m. this morning, saw about 30 Snow Geese on the Moose Creek sewage
lagoon, along with some Canada Geese.

On McLean Road, East of Hwy 138, saw several Blue Jays and a flock of Snow
Buntings.

On our way back to Ottawa, meandered between Giroux. Régimbald and Frank Kenny
Roads. Saw a Rough-legged Hawk, roughly 100 Snow Buntings and 8 Horned Larks.
At the Quarry on the South side of Giroux Road, saw Canada Goose, 4
unidentified ducks (Ruddy?) and a Northern Harrier.

Pictures of our sightings are available from Bob Boisvert, my neighbour, at:

Hi Everyone,
The 21st Wallaceburg, ON CBC took place on Wednesday, Dec. 27.
The 20 observers turned up a total of 87 species, the second highest total
ever (89 species found last year), with the average for the past 10 years
being 80. For the first time ever, we did not add any new species to the
count (128 cumulative). We set 7 new high individual totals, 3 tied highs
and, to this point, 4 Count Week species. A short summary follows:

New Highs:
GREAT BLUE HERON 10 (7 in 2003)
TUNDRA SWAN 888 (79 in 2003)
NORTHERN SHOVELER 2 (1 in 1999; only the 2nd record)
NORTHERN HARRIER 28 (27 in 2003)
AMERICAN COOT 2 (1 in 4 previous years)
YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER 2 (1 in 2 previous years; first since 1995)
EASTERN BLUEBIRD 21 (20 in 2002)

Tied highs:
WHITE-WINGED SCOTER 1 (only the 4th record but 3rd year in a row), BALD
EAGLE 1, MERLIN 1 (2nd record; 1 in 1997)

Other Notables:
2 PEREGRINE FALCONS, 1 KILLDEER, 1 ICELAND GULL, 1 PILEATED WOODPECKER (2nd
record; 2 in 2003), 48 TUFTED TITMICE, 1 CHIPPING SPARROW (4th record)

Count Week Species to date:
WOOD DUCK, RUDDY DUCK (would have been new, darnit), TURKEY VULTURE,
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER

There were NO NORTHERN BOBWHITE found on Walpole Island despite 6 observers
walking for many party hours; the lack of snow hurt as well. We've only
found them in 3 of the past 9 years; the last time was 2003 (6). I'm afraid
this count species will be a rumour in the future.

A special thanks to Wendy and Larry Cornelis for once again providing their
house for
the compilation and for the wonderful meal.
