Hi all

This message is intended for Ottawa winter listers and others who have
suffered the frustration of trying to find Three-toed Woodpecker off
Kerwin Road in the Dunrobin area.

On Sunday February 25, Richard Brouillet found one on the 6e Concession
Rd., North of Quyon. I saw it to-day with Bob Cermak and 2 observers
from the Outaouais, André Cloutier and Donald Dallaire, whom we met on
our way. We arrived at about noon; Bob saw it immediately before
getting out of the car and we were all able to relocate it some 10-15
minutes later, very close to the road. It was a female.

Directions: From Gatineau take Highway 148 in the West direction; turn
right on Hammond and drive North to 6e Concession road and go West on
that road to a cattle farm at 3550 Ch de la 6e Concession. Just below
the small hill, East of No 3550, there is a coniferous forest both sides
of the road; the bird was on the North side when we spotted it but it
flew to the other side. There were numerous Hairy Woodpeckers in the
same area.

Good luck

A Black/Mallard hybrid was trying to walk on thin ice on Ashbridge's Bay,
opposite the boat launch. His feet kept breaking throught the ice so he spread
them and pushed himself around on his chest.
Jean Iron's Iceland Gulls were still there, but no Harlequin. Splendid looks
at other waterfowl in the sunlight.

Ashbridge's Bay is off Lake Shore Boulevard at Coxwell.

Saw a first-year Cooper's Hawk at Carlington Hill today about 3pm. It had
approached a neighbouring high-rise apartment causing a panic flight by
40-50 pigeons.

Directions: Exit 417 (Queensway) at Maitland, south on Maitland to third
stop light, left on Glenmount Ave, first left on Cassel, follow Cassel to
end at Clyde Ave. Park opposite high-rise apt. Take path toward Carlington
Hill (visible from where you park). Climb flat-topped hill (lays over a
water reservoir) and scan sky - the Cooper's came from the southeast.
