The Komoka Ponds near Komoka Provincial Park are known for attracting waterfowl but are still 95% frozen. However along the edge of one pond an open stretch hosted a group of 8 pairs of Ring-necked Duck, 1 pair of Greater Scaup, 1 Canvasback, and 1 pair of Canada Geese. In another pond with some open water were Canada Geese and Mallards. Black Ducks, Mallards, Common Goldeneye, Common Merganser and a singing Song Sparrow were found where Komoka Road crosses the Thames River.
Birds were seen on Sunday, March 18, 2007 by Hugh Casbourn, Garth Casbourn, and Betsy Baldwin. Hopefully the ice will be off the ponds soon. Komoka is west of London. >From London, follow Oxford Street West or Commissioners Road West until they merge to become Glendon Dr. Follow Glendon Dr. west to Komoka Road. The ponds are on your left. Alternatively, take Hwy 402 to the Komoka turnoff and head east on Glendon Dr. until Komoka Road. Turn right to head south at Komoka Road. Komoka Road crosses the Thames River approximately 1.5 km. south of the Glendon Dr. and Komoka Road intersection. Hugh Casbourn, London, Ont.
