I can assure "Rose-Marie", and any others who may be concerned, that the Woodcocks I reported were not disturbed in any way.
Also, in response to the single e-mail I received about Woodcocks being "seasonal" birds and of little or no concern to ONTBIRDS readers, I would also like to say that the number of individuals who responded positively to my report negate this theory. X-BeenThere: [email protected] X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 02 Apr 2007 19:39:36 -0000 Hello, On Friday of last week, at LaSalle Park sailing docks (Hamilton Harbour), a mute swan was sighted who was covered in brown oil or tar. It's neck and underbelly are coated in brown stuff. Over this past weekend, two Canada Geese were seen there with black underbellies (presumably covered in the same stuff). And in fact, many Canada Geese have have some black discolouration on their bellies and feet. Both the mute and the blackened geese look a little sick. Is anyone aware of any chemicals being dumped into Hamilton Harbour recently? How does one go about reporting this kind of thing? It is also unfortunate that many of the female geese are carrying eggs right now. joan (Burlington)
