Hello Ontbirds people, Yesterday (07 April), a male Yellow-headed Blackbird was seen at ~ 11:12 AM by Bob Cermak and Jan Slumkoski, at #23 Manitou St. in the community of Forest Park east of Embrun, ON. This is likely the same bird that wintered at this very same location last year. The residents were very kind last year to the many birders who came to see this bird, but there is no need to enter their property. Please be respectful, please be quiet, and stay on the road.
DIRECTIONS: From Ottawa, take Hwy 417 east to exit #79 (the Limoges/Crysler exit), go south to Rte. 500 West and turn east on this road. Manitou St. is the 4th street on your right. Good birds to all, Chris Lewis Ottawa, ON [EMAIL PROTECTED] From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Apr 8 08:21:55 2007 Return-Path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Delivered-To: [email protected] Received: from bay0-omc3-s12.bay0.hotmail.com (bay0-omc3-s12.bay0.hotmail.com [65.54.246.212]) by king.hwcn.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 89F596348C for <[email protected]>; Sun, 8 Apr 2007 08:21:54 -0400 (EDT) Received: from hotmail.com ([65.55.155.120]) by bay0-omc3-s12.bay0.hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC(6.0.3790.2668); Sun, 8 Apr 2007 05:21:54 -0700 Received: from mail pickup service by hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC; Sun, 8 Apr 2007 05:21:54 -0700 Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from 65.55.155.123 by by144fd.bay144.hotmail.msn.com with HTTP; Sun, 08 Apr 2007 12:21:53 GMT X-Originating-IP: [216.209.144.47] X-Originating-Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED] From: "Ronald Fox" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [email protected] Date: Sun, 08 Apr 2007 08:21:53 -0400 X-OriginalArrivalTime: 08 Apr 2007 12:21:54.0186 (UTC) FILETIME=[7E477EA0:01C779D8] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; format="flowed" X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.1 Subject: [Ontbirds]Harris's Sparrow X-BeenThere: [email protected] X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 08 Apr 2007 12:21:55 -0000 This visitor keeps surprising us! It returned to our neighbour's feeders on Thursday, I didn't find out till late Thursday night, then I was out of town Friday. Yesterday I chatted with him to confirm what he saw and as I was on the phone with him it showed up at our feeders. It was there, coming and going until at least 1 p.m. Nancy Fox From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Apr 8 08:58:42 2007 Return-Path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Delivered-To: [email protected] Received: from bellwecs1.srvr.bell.ca (bellwecs1.srvr.bell.ca [207.236.237.113]) by king.hwcn.org (Postfix) with SMTP id E4AD56348E for <[email protected]>; Sun, 8 Apr 2007 08:58:41 -0400 (EDT) Received: (qmail 7380 invoked from network); 8 Apr 2007 12:58:41 -0000 Received: from [EMAIL PROTECTED] by bellwecs1.srvr.bell.ca with EntrustECS-Server-7.4;08 Apr 2007 12:58:41 -0000 Received: from bellwfep4.bellnexxia.net (HELO bellwfep4-srv.bellnexxia.net) (207.236.237.110) by bellwecs1.srvr.bell.ca with SMTP; 8 Apr 2007 12:58:41 -0000 Received: from TOROONDC908.bell.corp.bce.ca ([142.182.89.88]) by bellwfep4-srv.bellnexxia.netESMTP <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Sun, 8 Apr 2007 08:58:41 -0400 Received: from toroondc911.bell.corp.bce.ca ([142.182.89.14]) by TOROONDC908.bell.corp.bce.ca with Microsoft SMTPSVC(6.0.3790.1830); Sun, 8 Apr 2007 08:58:41 -0400 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft Exchange V6.5 Content-class: urn:content-classes:message MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Subject: Re: [Ontbirds]Harris's Sparrow Date: Sun, 8 Apr 2007 08:58:41 -0400 Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> X-MS-Has-Attach: X-MS-TNEF-Correlator: Thread-Topic: [Ontbirds]Harris's Sparrow Thread-Index: Acd52IVbfWusbctoRGG4ppAebK/96AABRxo4 From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, <[email protected]> X-OriginalArrivalTime: 08 Apr 2007 12:58:41.0876 (UTC) FILETIME=[A22A4140:01C779DD] X-BeenThere: [email protected] X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 08 Apr 2007 12:58:42 -0000 SGkgTmFuY3ksIHdoZXJlIGV4YWN0bHkgYXJlIHlvdSBsb2NhdGVkPyAgSSBoYXZlIGEgY2hhbmNl IHRvIGdvIGZvciBhIGRyaXZlIHRvZGF5IGJ1dCBoYXZlIG5vIGlkZWEgd2hlcmUgeW91J3JlIHJl cG9ydGluZyBmcm9tPw0KDQpUaGFua3MsDQpGcmFuayBQaW5pbGxhDQoNCi0tLS0tLS0tLS0tLS0t LS0tLS0tLS0tLS0tLS0tDQpTZW50IGZyb20gTXkgQmxhY2tCZXJyeSBXaXJlbGVzcw0KDQotLS0t LSBPcmlnaW5hbCBNZXNzYWdlIC0tLS0tDQpGcm9tOiBvbnRiaXJkcy1ib3VuY2VzQGh3Y24ub3Jn IDxvbnRiaXJkcy1ib3VuY2VzQGh3Y24ub3JnPg0KVG86IG9udGJpcmRzQGh3Y24ub3JnIDxvbnRi aXJkc0Bod2NuLm9yZz4NClNlbnQ6IFN1biBBcHIgMDggMDg6MjE6NTMgMjAwNw0KU3ViamVjdDog W09udGJpcmRzXUhhcnJpcydzIFNwYXJyb3cNCg0KDQogICBUaGlzICB2aXNpdG9yICBrZWVwcyAg c3VycHJpc2luZyAgdXMhICAgSXQgcmV0dXJuZWQgdG8gb3VyIG5laWdoYm91cidzDQogICBmZWVk ZXJzICBvbiBUaHVyc2RheSwgSSBkaWRuJ3QgZmluZCBvdXQgdGlsbCBsYXRlIFRodXJzZGF5IG5p Z2h0LCB0aGVuDQogICBJIHdhcyAgb3V0ICBvZiAgdG93biAgRnJpZGF5LiAgWWVzdGVyZGF5IEkg Y2hhdHRlZCB3aXRoIGhpbSB0byBjb25maXJtDQogICB3aGF0ICBoZSAgc2F3ICBhbmQgYXMgSSB3 YXMgb24gdGhlIHBob25lIHdpdGggIGhpbSBpdCBzaG93ZWQgdXAgYXQgb3VyDQogICBmZWVkZXJz LiAgIEl0ICB3YXMgIHRoZXJlLCAgY29taW5nICBhbmQgIGdvaW5nICB1bnRpbCAgYXQgbGVhc3Qg MSBwLm0uDQogICBOYW5jeSBGb3gNCl9fX19fX19fX19fX19fX19fX19fX19fX19fX19fX19fX19f X19fX19fX19fX19fDQpPTlRCSVJEUyBpcyBwcmVzZW50ZWQgYnkgdGhlIE9udGFyaW8gRmllbGQg T3JuaXRob2xvZ2lzdHMgLSB0aGUgcHJvdmluY2lhbCBiaXJkaW5nIG9yZ2FuaXphdGlvbi4NClNl bmQgYmlyZCByZXBvcnRzIHRvIE9OVEJJUkRTIG1haWxpbmcgbGlzdCBPTlRCSVJEU0Bod2NuLm9y Zw0KRm9yIGluc3RydWN0aW9ucyB0byBqb2luIG9yIGxlYXZlIE9OVEJJUkRTIHZpc2l0IGh0dHA6 Ly93d3cub2ZvLmNhL29udGJpcmRzaG93Lmh0bQ0KT05UQklSRFMgR3VpZGVsaW5lcyBtYXkgYmUg dmlld2VkIGF0IGh0dHA6Ly93d3cub2ZvLmNhL29udGJpcmRzZ3VpZGUuaHRtDQoFrom [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Apr 8 10:20:33 2007 Return-Path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Delivered-To: [email protected] Received: from fep1.cogeco.net (smtp.cogeco.net [216.221.81.25]) by king.hwcn.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6EEDC634B2 for <[email protected]>; Sun, 8 Apr 2007 10:20:33 -0400 (EDT) Received: from mycomputer (d150-115-231.home.cgocable.net [24.150.115.231]) by fep1.cogeco.net (Postfix) with SMTP id 7658B899 for <[email protected]>; Sun, 8 Apr 2007 10:20:33 -0400 (EDT) Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> From: "Barry Cherriere" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "ONTBIRDS" <[email protected]> Date: Sun, 8 Apr 2007 10:20:38 -0400 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.3028 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.3028 Subject: [Ontbirds]leucistic Horned Grebe X-BeenThere: [email protected] X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 08 Apr 2007 14:20:33 -0000 While viewing the Western Grebe from the end of West Street in Bronte yesterday, April 7, I was taken by surprise when a leucistic Horned Grebe (the ghost) surfaced just in front of me. I was showing the Western Grebe to a family with a young birder, Mohammad, when his dad asked me what this close one was. I looked and in amazement, I said to them, I'm not sure? and ran for the camera that was still in the van. I had to wait it out through several snow squalls and while it worked it's way up and down the shoreline, towards and away from me. The leucistic Horned Grebe teemed up with a breeding plumage male Horned Grebe and photos were taken of them together. Thanks to Mohammad's dad for alerting my attention to this bird. Photos have been sent to the OFO photo page. Directions; Bronte Harbour (Oakville) Lookout: From Toronto and points east of Oakville, take the QEW to Bronte Road, take Bronte south to the Lakeshore and then go west on Lakeshore to West Street (not West River St, mistake I made). Go right to the end there is a lookout there at the end, beside Bronte Cemetery. From Hamilton you can exit at Burloak and then go east on Lakeshore Road to West Street. Best regards, Barry Cherriere (Puffinus puffinus)
