At 10:30 this morning I saw a Fox Sparrow in the Michael Boyer woodlot on
York University's Keele Campus, near the slough at the north west part of
the woodlot. This same general area of the woodlot has produced Fox Sparrow
during the spring and fall several times before in the last few years.
White-thoated sparrows were also heard nearby.
Also present - a symphony of Wood Frogs in both of the largest sloughs in
the woodlot; a Cooper's Hawk surveying the campus surrounding the woods.
Cooper's have been nesting in this woodlot (in slightly different places
each year) for at least the last 3 years.
Directions:
Use the map found here:
http://www.yorku.ca/web/futurestudents/map/webmap.html
Boyer Woodlot is marked, near building number 6. Number 74 is the best place
to park. The Fox Sparrow was seen very close to, and flying over, the small
wooded pond near number 75 on the map. Note that number 75 is also parking,
but is reserved for staff of that building, and it's not possible to enter
that lot without a keycard.
Another way: The Fox Sparrow was seen in the northwest corner of the Boyer
Woodlot, very near to the small wooded pond that is close to Ian Macdonald
Boulevard. Boyer Woodlot is located between Ottawa Rd. and Ian Macdonald
Boulevard on York's Keele Campus, which is located southwest of the
intersection of Keele and Steeles.
