Hello birders,

Mark Wiercinski, John Haselmayer and I just finished our annual Bruce Peninsula
Big Day. We tallied 163 species, our third-best result ever (short of our
record of 174 species).

Basic Route:
The Bruce Peninsula, with some geographic liberty to include MacGregor Point
Provincial Park. Start near Wiarton for night birds; dawn chorus/wetland birds
at MacGregor Point Prov Park (Ducks Unlimited pond); work north towards
Tobermory throughout the day.

Bird Highlights:
25 warbler species - The best mixed warbler flocks were 1) the south road of
MacGregor Point PP (adjacent to the DU pond) and 2) the trails to Wingfield
Basin from Cabot Head lighthouse.
White-eyed Vireo (1) - MacGregor Point PP, along trail near tower at DU pond
Philadelphia Vireo (8) - various locations
Clay-coloured Sparrow - along beach near Visitor Centre at MacGregor Point PP
White-rumped Sandpiper (1) - Miramichi Bay
Red-necked Grebe (2) - Dyers Bay
White-winged Scoter (10) - Dyers Bay
Barred Owl (1) - south of Wiarton
Whip-poor-will (1)
Red-headed Woodpecker (2) - Tobermory
Red-bellied Woodpecker (2) - the RBWO and RHWO were on the same tree fighting
for the nest holes!

Date: May 22, 2007
