A singing Grasshopper Sparrow was found along Conservation Rd. yesterday. It was perched at the top of a spruce tree on the side of the road. Interestingly, it was in the middle of the day in a 30-degree plus temperatures. Conservation Rd. is on the West side of the property. Check the website www.hullettmarsh.org for a map of the area. The sparrow was seen just past the parking lot at 40589 Conservation Rd. I got a great look at the bird and luckily, just happened to have the parabolic microphone with me and got at 45 second recording of its song!
In other news, there is no sign as of yet of offspring for the Black Terns on the Bluebill Pool. A pair can seen regularly at the SW corner of the impoundment and at one point flew within about 15 feet of me showing definite territorial behaviour. It’s only a matter of time before young will be spotted I’m sure. DIRECTIONS TO HULLETT - Hullett is just East of Clinton, in Central Huron(County)Coming From the North or South – take HWY 4 to Hydro Line Rd and follow the sign.
