This morning we had an Olive-sided Flycatcher singing its classic
"Quick Three Beers" from the top of a dead hemlock in our yard
bordering Brookbanks Ravine in Toronto. It sang on and off for about
1.5 hours after first hearing it about 6:45. There's been an
Olive-sided here for the previous two days. Listening to its song
made it easy to imagine that we were in Algonquin Park or beside a
muskeg pond in the boreal forest. Later we saw two Olive-sideds.
Several are here in late August every year. Look for them in similar
habitat: top of a tall dead tree in a forest opening or edge. They
usually return to the same perch after catching insects.
