Weather:
Sunny conditions prevailed throughout the day with cumulous clouds building
up during the middle portions of the day, although these would dissipate
with the increase in the wind during the afternoon. Winds were light and
variable early becoming moderate east-southeast in the afternoon.

Raptor Observations:
With the light winds early, the flight took a bit of time to develop
although Sharpies were moving early and continued on a steady pace for much
of the day. The early Broad-wing kettles were much less organized than
yesterday’s groupings and the flight overall was lighter with less large
kettles forming. Also, predictably, much of the flight drifted to the north
with the wind and corresponding thermal activity. Still 5,857 birds of 11
species were recorded and included very nice overhead looks of two
Peregrines that were much appreciated by today’s onlookers.

Non-raptor Observations:
Monarchs moved in very large numbers today, starting early but tapering off
somewhat in the afternoon.
