Observation start time: 07:00:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 8 hours

Official Counter: Calvin Brennan

Observers: Al Kostyniak, Terry Angevine

Visitors:
Hal Cohen etal.
Ron Harkness
Jim Maki
Jerry Stanley
Kathie Goodblood

Weather:
It was an unseasonably warm and hazy day today with light to moderate
southeast winds.

Raptor Observations:
The flight overall was quite stagnant, not surprising given the conditions,
and dominated heavily by Sharp-shins. After some fairly steady movement
during the morning, there was a sharp drop off in activity in the
afternoon.

Non-raptor Observations:
I forgot to mention yesterday that there was a very good movement of Blue
Jays, with the first large groups of the fall seen. Today’s migration of
Blue Jays was even more impressive with many thousands passing by, although
much of it was to the north in the haze. A Fox Squirrel was seen swimming
in the channel at one point today, presumably crossing from the Gibraltar
side. Oddly enough, this is second such crossing I’ve seen in my time here.

Predictions:
Perhaps with a weak frontal system going through overnight, there will be a
rejuvenation of the flight in coming days.
