Hello Ontbirders: Just to let you know that for those who haven't had a chance recently to get out to the Alfred Sewage Lagoons, there were still three Eared Grebes there as of late yesterday afternoon, October 26. This is down from the six reported earlier in the month, but they were easy to see in the east pond from the observation tower. There were also seven species of duck, coots and moorhens, the usual large gaggle of Canada Geese, and two Northern Harriers. Good birding Peter Hall Directions: From Ottawa, take Highway 17 east along the south side of the Ottawa River for about 50 minutes until you reach the town of Alfred. On the east side of town, take Peat Moss Road south for about a kilometre and watch for the sewage lagoon dike on the left hand side. The observation tower can be seen on the east side and there is a small parking lot from which you take a short path to the observation tower. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
