Hi Everyone,
Yesterday, October 27th during the afternoon we observed an adult male
Harlequin Duck at Morrison Island on the Ottawa River. It was feeding in the
upper rapids along with 250+ Common Goldeneye, 6 Bufflehead and 1
Long-tailed Duck. This is the same location a male was present last winter.
Since 1994, this site has been a "key location" for the Harlequin Duck and
Barrow's Goldeneye has been a regular visitor since the early 70's.
Good birding,
Bruce
Directions: To reach Morrison Island from Ottawa take Hwy.417/17 north to
the first Pembroke exit, follow the road to the turn off for Hwy.148 to
Quebec. You will see the rapids between Morrison and Allumentes Islands.
Park east of bridge and walk back.
