At about 12:00 today (Nov. 5) I found two adult Ross's Geese a few km west of Peters Corners (junction of Hwys 5, 8 & 52) west of Hamilton. The birds were originally found in a corn stubble field at the SE corner of Orkney Rd & Hwy 5 along with hundreds of Canada Geese, a few Cackling Geese and three white morph Snow Geese. However, the birds all flew off towards the east after a few minutes. I did manage to find one of the Ross's and the Snows with many Canadas and a Cackling at the next farm just east of Orkney Rd on the south side of Hwy 5. The birds were at the back of the bare field behind house no. 1530 (0.4 km E of Orkney Rd) where there is an irrigation pond. Unfortunately, at times the subject geese may be out of sight if in the pond or in a hollow in the field. Patience may be required, and these birds seem to move about frequently between the fields, even as far as those on the west side of Hwy 52 a few km east (where a Greater White-fronted Goose had been found about 10 days ago), so the whole area should be checked.
Also, the two Cattle Egrets were still at the farm at the NE corner of Woodhill Rd & Hwy 5 just a few km west of this location. Rob Dobos Dundas, ON [EMAIL PROTECTED]
