Cranberry Marsh, southwest Whitby, Ontario
Daily Raptor Count: Nov 25, 2007 (see table below)
I WISH TO SINCERELY THANK ALL OF THE OVER 100 PEOPLE WHO HAVE HELPED AT THE
PLATFORM, WHETHER FOR 1 HOUR, 20 HOURS,--- UP TO 300+ HOURS. It would be
great to have all assembled on Nov.30 or Dec.1!!
Observation time: 9am to 1pm
Official Counter: Doug Lockrey
Observers: Brian Steele, Greg Stuart and 15 others who helped for short
times, and many visitors
Weather: blue sky alternating with cloud-cover; 0 to 2C; rising BP replaced
by falling BP;
medium W wind
Non-raptor Observations: Yesterday we had 6 Common Redpolls, 1 Brown
Creeper, 3 Bonaparte's Gulls, N.Shrike, 1 Rusty Blackbird, along with 15
Wild Turkeys on Hall's Rd., plus many more non-raptors.
Today/Nov.25--several Ring-necked Pheasants (not seen for quite a while)
were at the north end of the wetland; N.Shrike, swamp sparrow,
white-throated sparrow, several Wild Turkeys on the roadway
Raptor Observations:
It was difficult to count the actual numbers of Rough-leggeds, insofaras
they were alternating between hovering, stooping and perching, with 5 "going
through", 1 being a dark morph.
OUR TOTAL OF 10,881 migrating raptors brings us to 119 shy of 11,000--it may
be difficult to 'achieve' before Nov.30, our last official day. I will
likely man the platform on the Saturday, Dec.1.
