Today I went birding at the Kortright Centre for Conservation. It was a very
chilly day, so there were many birds at the feeders. One of these was an
immature WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, found near the feeder that is close to the
bridge to the right of the river (see Below for Directions) . At the "Sugar
Bush Shop" middle trail entrance, I observed 4 PINE GROSBEAKS on the pines
down the trail, past the first feeder, and an additional 6 PINE GROSBEAKS on
the pines slightly right of "The Sugar Bush Shop" , near the road. In the
Wood Duck Nesting Box on the boardwalk, the EASTERN SCREECH-OWL was
reluctant to show, but a wait of about 6 minutes was well rewarded with good
looks at the owl.

*Directions to Owl:*

The trail entrance that I used was located at "The Sugar Bush Shop", which
is
located near the Visitor Centre, It was the middle trail of the three
entrances. Following that trail one will encounter many feeders placed
along it. Continuing through the trail, one will reach a grassy area in
which
one can turn right or go straight. Go straight to go to the marsh. If
you are going the right way you will encounter a fenced-off bridge.
You will follow a river until you reach a sharp left to go to the
marsh boardwalk. The marsh was frozen over, but if one takes the
boardwalk, to the right, one will come across a Bat House, with a Wood
Duck nesting box not far away. The Owl is in there.

*Directions to Kortright:*

The Kortright Centre is located three kilometers west of Highway 400
and one kilometer south of Major Mackenzie Drive at 9550 Pine Valley
Drive in Woodbridge.
