A total of 31 species and 1966 individuals were reported on the 31st Annual
Burk's Falls CBC on Friday, December 14
Then number of species is lower than the average of 39 over the past seven
years.
Highlights Include
7 Bald Eagles, 4 adults and two sub-adults. Alex Mills observed five on the
ice of Ahmic Lake just west of Magnetawan and Cal Osborne, Sandra Arseneau
and Dick and Elsa Tafel observed 2 at different locations in another section
of the count circle.
Mourning Doves - only 4, the lowest since 1999
Barred Owl - 1
Red-breasted Nuthatch - 65 was low, especially when compared to 202 last
year
White-breasted Nuthatch - 30 was the highest since 1999
Northern Cardinal - 1 at Steve O'Donnell's feeder, first since 1999
No American Tree Sparrows - first time missed since 1992
No Purple Finch, Pine Siskin, American Goldfinch and crossbills
Pine Grosbeaks and Common Redpolls were in low numbers
Hoary Redpoll - 3 found by two different parties
