Hello:

A single Cackling Goose along with 3 Canada Geese and a male Pintail are
looking like they are attempting to overwinter with the 100s of Mallards and
Black Ducks in Heyden. The Cackling Goose has been present since November.
As far as I know this is the only Northern Ontario winter record for
Cackling Goose.I would be interested in any other records if they exist. It
can be found along the little stream with 100s of ducks just south of the
horse farm on Highway 17 north of Sault Ste. Marie-3.1km north of Sixth
Line. The stream is on the right side of the road if you are heading north.

A second winter Thayer's Gull and a half dozen Kumlien's Gulls and a dozen
Glaucous Gulls along with 350 Herring Gulls are still at the SSM Landfill.

A Boreal Chickadee has been coming to my feeder regularly since late
November. He greatly prefers the peanut feeder and ignores the suet.Pine
Grosbeaks,Common and occ.a Hoary Redpoll along with 8 Cardinals(not a common
resident here in the north country)along with the regular feeder birds,
juncos, Tree Sparrows and a Northern Shrike round off the yard birds.

Happy New Years

Kirk Zufelt
