Hi All,
This morning about 8:30 am, Feb 27th, 2008 an immature Golden Eagle
was observed soaring low over tree tops in the village of Vienna about
3 km north of Port Burwell. It was over the tree tops in the Otter
Creek valley heading south on Hwy 19 just prior to the hill leaving
the village towards Port Burwell and near the single gas station in
town. Both of these villages are south of Tillsonburg on Hwy 19.
Thanks to the Niagara Peninsula Hawkwatch organizers for the excellent
presentation last Saturday, plus the nice handouts for
identification. This Golden Eagle had two brilliant white markings
underwing as shown in the handout. This was a quick observation as it
disappeared over the hill top to the north. It did not seem to have
any white left under the tail area, but the two wing spots were
clearly visible.
Regards,
Joe Stephenson
Port Burwell
Port Burwell and Vienna are at the south end of Hwy 19 about two hours
from Toronto on the north shore of Lake Erie; about one hour from
London.
