*Hello Fellow Birders,*
*The 2 CAROLINA WRENS continue to entertain us through the kitchen windows.
It is amazing how tame they seem to be getting perching themselves on the
suet cage with a DOWNY WOODPECKER. Many JUNCOS, COMMON REDPOLLS, AMERICAN
GOLDFINCHES, BLACK CAPPED CHICKADEES, NORTHERN CARDINALS, BLUE JAYS, HAIRY,&
DOWNY WOODPECKERS, WHITE BREASTED NUTHATCHES, MOURNING DOVES, AMERICAN TREE
SPARROWS, WHITE THROATED SPARROW (singing), BARRED OWL, BUFFLEHEAD, COMMON
GOLDENEYE, SCAUP, TRUMPETER & MUTE SWANS, MALLARDS (copulating), LONG TAILED
are some more birds entertaining us.*
*An IMMATURE TRUMPETER SWAN has moved into the Port of Newcastle by the
parkette of Bond Head. For some time we were wondering about its identity
as to whether he/she might be a MUTE or a TRUMPETER. After consulting with
several professional birders we have decided that he/she is defintely a
TRUMPETER.*
*Thank you to all of my colleagues for your input.*
*I have contacted Mr. Harry Lumsden from Richmond Hill to come and wrestle
the swan to the ground and hold him/her until we have tagged, banded, taken
a blood test and identified his/her sex. He plans to be here this coming
Saturday around 11 a.m. +or- Spread the word for you are all invited to
watch.*
**
*Directions: Take the 440 exit off 401 and drive south down Mill St. until
you come to the lake. *
