Overcast with light scattered showers at noon. Cool. Raptor Observations: A light flight but a few interesting sightings with an adult golden eagle at 12:10 the highlight. Local turkey vultures, red-tails, and a displaying cooper's hawk made sorting out the migrants a challenge at times. Non-raptor Observations: Spring migration continued despite the threatening weather. Bonaparte's gulls (22), wood ducks (8), common loons (10), double-crested cormorants (16), great blue heron (5), several large flocks of blackbirds, brown creepers, yellow-rumped warblers, 1 white-throated sparrow, 2 fox sparrows, several song sparrows. The site is 1km south of the south shore of Lake Ontario, 20km east of Hamilton, 40km west of Niagara Falls. Directions to site: To get to Beamer CA, take the QEW to Exit 72, follow Christie St./Mountain St. to the top of the escarpment, turn right on Ridge Road West, and go 1.6km to Quarry Rd. Turn right on Quarry Rd. and drive 100m to the conservation area. Parking is normally available inside the park. If parking at the entrance or on the roads, do NOT leave valuables in your car.
