Hello everyone: This report comes on behalf of Keith Lee (Tiny).
All the shorebirds with the exception of a dozen Dunlin have departed the
Wetland. However, it is still an exciting place to bird. Tree and Barn
Swallow graced the sky above the water. The Trumpeter (Oscar we call named
him) and Mute Swans are still around but certainly not in the previous
numbers. The Mute family of eight cygnet appear to be doing quite well.
The family of 12 Wood Duck ducklings are also doing well. We observes 6
large Wood Duck ducklings in the south pond. The Marsh Wren are singing
their little hearts out and a gentleman at the Wetland even managed to get a
couple of photographs. A Great Blue Heron and a Black Crowned Night Heron
were also in the south pond. The Gray Tree Frogs (Norma Broadbear) were
also singing quite loudly. Norma, Donna Fano and I observed what looked
like a female Redhead Duck. Doug Mcrae tried to get a photograph so he
could study it better but it took to the wing as he tried to take a
photograph. Anyway, Donna Fano is going to send her photographs to Doug
Mcrae and hopefully Doug will be able to tell us whether it was a Redhead
Duck, a Canvasback OR Pochard. whatever it turns out to be, it was a very
fine looking duck indeed. Also the gentleman photographer helped a a
Snapping Turtle cross County Road 64 - well done, sir. Unfortunately he was
not able to help the two Painted Turtles that had tried to cross.
If you are in the arae Sunday between 10:00 and noon, come by the Wetland
and enjoy our little paradise.
Maureen Campeau
Directions: The Constructed Wetland is located at the SE corner of
Brighton. From Hwy 401, take the Brighton exit 509 (Hwy. 30) and follow
it south into town. Go south through the two traffic lights, over
the railway tracks and follow the main road, now called Prince Edward
Street, south. About 1 km south of the tracks, the main road begins
to swing to the left and becomes Cty. Rd. 64. As this long turn
ends the Constructed Wetlands appear on the right side.
