Blenheim Sewage Pond Update:
Lots of shorebirds to look at, especially in Pond 5 (back cell) today. Of
note was a very early Dunlin with one leg. This bird still had the black
belly patch, and perhaps the injury may explain its presence. I looked at
it for a while, then lost it to sight after looking at other shorebirds.
Other shorebirds included 5 Stilt Sandpipers, 4 Short-billed Dowitchers, 1
Solitary Sandpiper plus the usuals of many Least, Semipalmated, Pectoral,
Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs. As well, many more Semipalmated Plovers than
last week.
Lagoon Directions: Exit 401 at #90 (Communications Rd.) and head into
Blenheim. At the main stoplight turn right (west) onto Rd. 3. Travel about
1.5 km and turn right (north) onto Lagoon Rd. at the carwash, and continue
north about 1 km to gate. You must have an annual permit to enter.
Available at the Municipal Service Centre, 35 Talbot St. in Blenheim,
during business hours, fax (519) 676-0244.
