Observation start time: 06:00:00
Observation end time: 16:00:00
Total observation time: 10 hours
Official Counter: Colin Horstead
Observers: Ches Caister, Dave Brown, Jim Dunn, Mary Carnahan,
Wayne Parnall
Visitors:
Karen Pakkala, Carol Lapointe and Ann Brokelman (T.O.), Mark Fairweather,
Jackie Oakley and Paul Heagle (Ottawa), Derek and Sylvia Roe (Woodstock)
Weather:
Moderate winds from the SW to start and then swinging fairly quickly to the
NW. A tough start to the day with lots of cloud and the threat of rain
that eventually came in the form of a heavy mist during the first hour or
so. Once this cleared to mostly blue skies and the winds went NW the
humidity dropped and the birds started to fly.
Raptor Observations:
A decent flight today with 669 birds total...but ONLY after one of the
slowest starts I've ever waited out. In the first 6 hours, other than a
flight of TV's...we would've had just 13 birds!! Once the flight started we
were able to find many of the raptors using the TV's as a focus. Golden
Eagles put in an appearance again today with 2 crossing through at the same
time. Just a single Red-shoulderd Hawk and a more Redtails (19). One more
Peregrine as well.
Non-raptor Observations:
More Yellow-rumped Warblers today...and another Great Horned Owl just after
first light.
