CRANBERRY MARSH RAPTOR WATCH, sw Whitby, ON
Thurs. Oct.23/08
Observation time: 0800-1100, 1200-1300EST
Coordinator: Doug Lockrey
Official Counter: Doug Lockrey
Observers: Jim Fairchild, Karl Jennewein, John Stirrat, Phil Babin

Medium NE to E winds were possibly responsible for few observers showing up.
Indeed, I worked away on the platform for an hour before the aforementioned
arrived. We enjoyed seeing 4 PURPLE FINCHES (2 adult males) and 10+ RUSTY
BLACKBIRDS (incl. 1 or 2 adult males), BUT the weather conditions were not
conducive to a migratory raptor watch. We all left at 1100EST.
Then I came back, and at 12:20EST our second GOLDEN EAGLE came through-- it was
a sub-adult, having very little white patches on the under wings and tail. Now
then , allow me to apologize for reporting yesterday's GE as a sub-adult--it
was an IMMATURE (LONG WHITE UNDERWING MARKINGS, AND MUCH WHITE IN THE TAIL.).

Between 1220 and 1245 6 more raptors came through-- 2 Turkey Vultures and 4
Red-taileds.
