Hi Ontbirders: The Hawk Owl, first reported on Dec. 1 in Gatineau, Quebec on the Ottawa River was still present as of 11:00 am today. It was perched on hydro lines running parallel to Hurtubise Boulevard, just to the east of #1073 and several red barns. The bird was not there when I first arrived at 10:30, but I was told by Dave Moore who was present that it had been there very shortly before I arrived. As I was pulling away at 11:00 it was suddenly present on the wires for about two minutes then it flew away when I turned the car around. It appears that this is its favourite perching spot, but it does move about in the surrounding woods and shrubby field. Good birding Peter Hall Directions: Follow Autoroute 5 north from Ottawa over the Ottawa River. Turn east onto Autoroute 50 towards Montreal. Exit at Boulevard Maloney (Highway 148). Follow Maloney for several kilometres and then turn right (south) towards the Ottawa River at Rue de Versailles. Follow Versailles until it ends at Hurtubise Boulevard. Turn left and follow Hurtibise (it takes a sharp right at RueCampeau) along the Ottawa River for several kilometres until #1073 with the red barns just to the east of the house. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
