This morning around 9:30 I found a Northern Mockingbird in the west end of Ottawa. It was on Grandview Road in the west end of Ottawa along the River. The bird was first seen sitting on the hydro lines across the road from #236 Grandview Road, it subsequently disappeared in to the surrounding shrubbery, but #236 has a nice bird feeder setup out front, so it may stick in this area. Other lingering early winter birds in the Ottawa area this morning included:- Amongst 6000+ gulls (95% Herring) roosting on the shoreline ice on Britannia Bay between Scrivens St. and Andrew Haydon Park were 1 adult Lesser Black-backed Gull, 2 juvenile Iceland Gulls and 2 adult and 2 juvenile Glaucous Gulls- On the Ottawa River between Dick Bell Park and Shirley's Bay were 1 female Black Scoter and 1 male Hooded Merganser and 2 female Red-breasted Mergansers- At the Hilda Avenue Feeders at Shirley's Bay there was a Northern Shrike and 4 Cedar Waxwings- On Eagelson Road south of Brownlee there was an adult Snowy Owl, almost pure white with only a few black spots, sitting on a fencepole by the road. Dave BrittonOttawa DIRECTIONS (for Mockingbird)From Highway 417 in take the Exit #134 at Moodie Drive. Go north to Carling Avenue, turn left on Carling and then right almost immediately on Grandview Road and continue about 1.2km to #236. The bird was found in this area._______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
