Birders: With Glenn Coady's posting of a Common Yellowthroat we have brought the first week of the unofficial 2008/2009 Ontario Winter List to a close. A total of 138 species have been either posted to ONTBIRDS or sent to me directly during the week. That is 71.5% of the total of 193 species reported during the whole of the 2007/2008 winter birding period. So, thanks everyone for your sightings and postings.

You can also see what species we still need to round out this season's winter list. I also have an update on two species of note for the Winter List. The adult male Varied Thrush has still been feeding all week at the home of Harold and Connie McCall at 13 Greenwood in the town of Deep River. I spoke to the McCall's today. Phone 613.584.2586. Visitors are welcome. Deep River is located on the Ottawa River 40+ km. above Pembroke. Directions: Off Hwy. 417 in Deep River, turn north at the Ridge Road exit. At the first four-way stop turn left and take the first left beyond Sheridan Court at Greenwood. The Spotted Towhee was re-found today at Point Pelee National Park by Richard Carr. It has moved south of its original location and is travelling with an Eastern Towhee for a good comparison. The Spotted Towhee was seen at various locations including: behind the washroom building at the Tip Turnaround; near the "42" degree sign; and, just south of the sign along the boardwalk.
