Happy New Year, everyone!

Brett Ewald and his group saw the Slaty-backed Gull above Niagara Falls on
the Niagara River today. They were looking from the pull-off just
downstream from the control gates (the long structure that extends well out
into the river from the Ontario side). The Slaty-backed was out on the
island, about mid-river.

At our feeders today, we had a male COMMON REDPOLL show up, our first since
last winter (Lake Road, Town of Wilson, Niagara County, NY). I also found a
COMMON GRACKLE on Randell Road in the Town of Wilson. It seems that there
are more of this species around this winter than are typical (Presqu'isle,
Ont (3), somewhere else in Ontario, Holland, NY (2)).

Good birding!
