This morning at Prince Edward Point I observed three separate flocks of
WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS (4, 7 & 35). There were many winter finches about
feeding on the road and practically at everyones bird feeder. I roughly
counted 25 PURPLE FINCHES, 20 COMMON REDPOLLS, 50 PINE SISKINS and 30 AMERICAN
GOLDFINCHES. I also observed 10 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS with a group of six
intermingling with SISKINS and PURPLE FINCHES. AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS and
DARK-EYED JUNCOS were relatively common and a few SNOW BUNTINGS and a SONG
SPARROW were seen.
Other good observations were 1 first year GLAUCOUS GULL at the Glenora
Ferry, a single male RING-NECKED DUCK at the hydro plant on hwy. 33 (not seen
on the way home), 4 adult BALD EAGLES at Prince Edward, 2 COMMON RAVENS, 1
GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET and 1 EASTERN BLUEBIRD. Aside from the ferry channel,
the only open water is right at the tip of Prince Edward Point. Perfect winter
weather for birding today.

Located in Prince Edward County. Take exit 566 (Marysville) off the 401 and go
south on County Road 49 to Picton. Take County Rd. 8 to County Rd. 17 to County
Rd. 16 to County Rd. 13. Follow County Rd. 13 to the end until you reach the
Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area.
