Hi All
Today at noon, Martin Blagdurn & I saw the Spotted Towhee just behind (east) of
the 42 sign at the tip of Point Pelee National Park. It was hanging out with
some Tree Sparrows.
Coming from south of the tip were a number of Horned Larks, off the tip were
Goldeneyes, Common Mergansers, Ring Billed Gulls, Black Back Gulls & Herring
Gulls.
We also saw 25 female Turkeys in the area across from the entrance of the Dunes
and 15 male Turkeys about 200 yds north of the group of females.
There was a small group of American Robins near the entrance of the Park and we
also found a group of about 60 at Mersea 19 & Concession C. Both groups
contained small numbers of the Atlantic Race of Robins. These are larger, much
darker with almost no white striping under the chin.
It was sunny and warm at Pelee, well above 0. The lake is still quite frozen
around the Point, but some open water is appearing at the tip. More as the day
went on! There is still quite a bit of snow there despite today's melt.
Good Birding
