Greetings, Last night at the Spit, also known as Tommy Thompson Park, I observed the following: Tree Swallows, Many Brown Creepers, 2 Eastern Meadowlarks, and a Winter Wren.
There continues to be American Goldfinches, Golden Crowned Kinglets, Mockingbirds, Song Sparrows, Killdeers (10 days ago mating) Buffleheads, C. Goldeneyes, a few Red-breasted Mergansers, Long tails, and Double Crested Cormorants along with scores of Redwing Black birds (fighting for territory), and C. Grackles. It is quite wet, so rubber boots are suggested if you plan on birding the Baselands, which is the area to the right as you enter the park just past the parking lot. The park is not open during the day on weekdays. Tommy Thompson Park, or as the locals call it, the Leslie Street Spit, is located in southeast Toronto. The Spit is at the end of Leslie St., south of Lakeshore Blvd. Elizabeth McKernan Toronto _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
