Friends of Point Pelee provide guided birding hikes throughout the Festival of Birds at Point Pelee National Park of Canada. Proceeds from hikes support the Friends of Point Pelee and Point Pelee National Park. This submitted report is a service of the FoPP Hike Leaders.
A number of migrants arrived in the Park, after the rain last evening. Of special note, a Lark Sparrow was reported from the Tip area. Also at the tip, a Blue-winged Warbler and a Yellow-breasted Chat. Another Blue-winged Warbler was found at the Sparrow Field. Tilden Woods had about 10 species of warbler, including Hooded, Black-throated Blue, Cape May and Northern Waterthrush. Several thrush and sparrow species were also noted. These included Wood, Swainson’s Thrush, Lincoln’s, White-crowned and White-thoated Sparrow. A few Rusty Blackbirdswere also still present. Just north of the Tilden Woods trail, onto the Chinquapin Oak Trail, a Worm-eating Warbler was seen. The Woodland Nature Trail, had some activity, and the Prothonotary Warblerwas yet again seen at the south end bridges. Also reported was a Golden-winged Warbler. On the evening hike at DeLaurier, there was a Clay-coloured Sparrow and along the Anders Footpath, south of there, we noted a pair of Eastern Bluebirds.
