LITTLE GULL was the highlight of reports received July 9 through July 16 from the Niagara Frontier Region.

July 14, an immature LITTLE GULL at Fort Niagara State Park, flying up the Niagara River from Lake Ontario. Also at Fort Niagara, 18 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 120 COMMON TERNS and 8 CLIFF SWALLOWS at 12 nests.

Also the 14th, in the Niagara Falls gorge below the Schoellkopf Museum, a pair of immature GREATER SCAUP and 2 COMMON MERGANSERS, and an adult GREATER SCAUP also in the gorge.

At Dunkirk Harbor this week, 3 CASPIAN TERNS, and July 16, 6 southbound LEAST SANDPIPERS on the Main Street beach.

Not unexpected for a marine species in a fresh water habitat, a BROWN PELICAN specimen was found July 14 on a Lake Erie beach in the Erie County Town of Evans, about 12 miles north from Dunkirk Harbor. This is likely the pelican seen by many observers at Dunkirk July 6 through July 8.

Earlier this month, 2 BALD EAGLES fledged from the nest at Route 20 and Tonawanda Creek in the Genesee County Town of Alexander. The two young and two adults continue to be seen in the nest area.

From Cattaraugus County, July 12, at Jimmerson Hill near Salamanca, 12 warbler species included 2 LA. WATERTHRUSHES, plus RUFFED GROUSE, BALD EAGLE and WINTER WREN.

July 14 at Wheeler's Gulf, on Fredonia-Stockton Road in the Town of Pomfret, 6 ACADIAN FLYCATCHERS, along with PILEATED WOODPECKER, WOOD THRUSH, SCARLET TANAGER, ROSE-BR. GROSBEAK, DARK-EYED JUNCO, INDIGO BUNTING and 4 warbler species.

Other reports - From Buffalo, two PEREGRINE FALCONS over Shirley Avenue, near the UB Main Street campus nestbox, and at Tifft Nature Preserve, COMMON MOORHEN, plus GREAT EGRET, GREEN HERON and BL.-GR. GNATCATCHER. On Lake Erie at Saint Columbans in the Town of Sheridan, 43 COMMON MERGANSERS. And in a Grand Island yard, 2 young GRAY CATBIRDS feeding at a grape jelly feeder.

Dial-a-Bird will be updated Thursday evening, July 23. Please call in your sightings by noon Thursday. You may report sightings after the tone. Thank you for calling and reporting to Dial-a-Bird.
