Folks
A Western Sandpiper seen last week remains at the ponds at the West Perth
Wetlands (formerly known as the Mitchell sewage lagoons). The shorebirds move
around from cell to cell, but most often they are found in the small cell
directly south of the treatment plant or the l-shaped cell south of it.
Construction and the dumping of septic tank waste disrupt the birds during work
hours: early or late in the day are better.
Directions: From Ontario Road, the main street of Mitchell, turn south on
Wellington St. Go to the end and veering slightly west, follow the dirt road to
the parking lot.
