Visitors:
A total of 28 or so visitors to the Tower today including, among others,
Steve Winiarski, Richard Guillet, Tom Hince, Paul Pratt, Jim McCoy, Olga
and Roland Klekner, and Mike Fitzpatrick.
Weather:
Mostly to partly cloudy skies with brisk North-northeast to Northeast winds
at 5 to 15 mph and gusts in excess of 20 mph. Temps. climbed from 12.7 to
about 21C. Excellent visibility at 30 km and beyond.
Raptor Observations:
Small Broadwing kettles began lifting off to the East shortly after 0800
EST. Greatest numbers passing between 1200 and 1300 EST. Another stellar
Kestrel passage today with a season-high of 166.
Non-raptor Observations:
11 species of waterfowl,
Black-crowned Night-heron- 4,
Bald Eagle- 4 locals,
Only shorebird noted was Killdeer.
Ruby-throated Hummingbird- 18,
Tree(250+), Barn(25+), and N. Rough-winged(10) Swallows. More too distant
to ID.
Blue Jay- 11,365,
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher- 1,
Red-eyed Vireo- 2,
Fair morning flight of warblers. Hardly any on the ground. Tennessee(1+),
Yellow, Magnolia(5+), Cape May(1), Yellow-rumped(3), Black-throated
Green(2), Palm(4), Bay-breasted(3+), Blackpoll(1+), and Wilson's(2)
Warblers and American Redstart and Common Yellowthroat(1).
Cedar Waxwing- 122,
Rose-breasted Grosbeak- 1,
American Goldfinch- 345,
Other:
Monarch- 80,
Fair number of dragonflies today.
Predictions:
Partly cloudy to clear skies and Northeast to East-northeast winds around 5
mph. High of 22C. Likely another good day with continuing favorable winds,
albeit not as strong as today, but similar to Monday's conditions.
