Weather: The weather today was cold with a stronger wind from the North-East. It was around 10-15mph all day. Some rain came in at around 2:30pm. Cloud cover was 100% all day and visibility was clear besides the hour or so with rain. Raptor Observations: A cold and wet day...however still a good number of Turkey Vultures on the move. 4,510 Turkey Vultures were counted today. At around 2:30pm it started to rain so I almost left. But over 1,000 Turkey Vultures went by in that hour and a good number in the rain. Also from that point on it seemed as if someone told the Red-tailed Hawks they could move, for within that hour 42 were counted. Then in the last hour and fifteen minutes of the count another 24 were also counted. With 94 total Red-tailed Hawks for the day, and the best day for them so far. Non-raptor Observations: A nice flock of around 10 Bonaparte's Gulls was feeding on and off all day by the count area. This is the first time this season that a small flock of any size has been around. Predictions: Should be cold again Thursday, and might have some on and off again rain...Should be slow if on and off again rain and cold. Not sure if I will get down to the count if it does rain. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Seth Cutright ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
