At 6:15 p.m. today, October 25, I counted 24 Fox Sparrows (all visible at once) feeding on nyger seed spread on the ground just outside a window overlooking Brookbanks Ravine in Toronto. I've been spreading seeds for them for several days. On Friday there were 5 and 7 yesterday. Great views of them double-scratching and some gave whisper songs. A few years ago we had more than 50 Fox Sparrows here at one time.

Earlier today I went to Rosetta McClain Gardens Raptor Watch on the Scarborough Bluffs. Frank Butson, known to his friends as BIGFRANK, heads up this hawkwatch. We had great views of a juvenile Golden Eagle and a very close juvenile Northern Goshawk. Also seen were Bald Eagle, Red-tailed Hawk, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Cooper's Hawk, and Northern Harrier. Small flocks of Eastern Bluebirds few west along the bluffs and small numbers of Black-capped Chickadees were moving west along Lake Ontario. Listen and watch for Boreal Chickadee when Black-caps are moving. No guarantees.

P.S. I talked to Jean this morning in England. She was studying and photographing European Herring Gulls in preparation for gull watching a Niagara later.
