Total observation time: 5 hours
Official Counter: Colin Horstead
Observers: Beth Wigle, Clive Hodder, Don Wigle, Jan Niewiadomski,
Jim Dunn, John Potticary, Kathy, Mary Carnahan,
Mike Kirchin
Weather:
Not a bad day weather wise until rain shut down the count midafternoon.
Temp made it to 11C...and winds were light to moderate from the S most of
the day.
Raptor Observations:
Not a big flight today with just 77 birds total...but at least birds were
seen every hour. Highlights were a lone Golden Eagle just before noon and a
young (juv) Northern Goshawk that made a run at a large flock of birds in
the trees to the left of the counters and successfully nailed a bird that
it then took to the ground.
Non-raptor Observations:
Predictions:
Tuesday now looks promising with predicted W and NW winds and at least some
sunshine to start the day. It will depend on how quickly the next system
pushes into south-western Ontario. Looking out further...Thursday is
looking really interesting with again strong NW winds and a mix of sun and
cloud. Of course this can change very quickly. Remember to bundle up with
extra layers when the winds are from the NW.
