A 1st winter Nelson's Gull (hybrid Glaucous x Herring) was present at noon in
the gull flock in the horse paddocks at the corner of Moodie Drive and
Corkstown Road in west end Ottawa. At first glance it looks like a
Glaucous-winged, but has a piebald bill similar in size and shape to a Herring
Gull. In flight it looks somewhat like a Thayer's, but is larger. Also at the
same location was 1 Cackling Goose, another Cackling Goose is on one of the
ponds at Andrew Hayden Park.
