Good afternoon Fellow Birders:It took quite a while and some anxious morning
hours, before Mr. P. put in an appearance approx. 10:45, at his favourite
buffet. It was very unfortunate for the 2 ladies who arrived at 07:30 and
waited sooo long, to no avail but very fortunate for the 4 gentlemen from
Ottawa who missed Mr. P on Friday but who arrived today, at just the right time
and had great views. As we all know, it's so much about timing. Fortunately, we
had some good periods of sunshine mid to late morning (now gone) and Mr. P.
took great advantage of the situation, basking and preening and giving us
excellent views of his red eyes. As we continued watching, he dined upon the
buckthorn berries, all the while vocalizing his disinctive call and
tail-pumping. As he flitted about, his white wing patches were very obvious.
What a beautiful bird, whose attractiveness alters with each shift in the light
and shadows.Birders are still invited into the backyards of #8 Aberdeen and 20
Ascot, where Shirley and Sue continue their generous hospitality. Even if they
are not home, you are welcome; please just close the gates. Thank you.Good luck
and good birding.Dian
