Hello All, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Ontbirders!
Spent this Christmas solitary, cold and miserable, but heck, at least I got some good gulling in at Niagara Falls! Ring-billed Gull - Many. California Gull - The widely-reported 3rd year bird at Adam Beck, perched on rocks. Really great views, could really see the slightly darker mantle compared to nearby Ring-bills and Herrings. Lesser Black-backed Gull - Two at Adam beck and two above the falls sitting on the rocks. Greater Black-backed Gull - Lots, especially above the falls. Herring Gull - Abundant everywhere. Thayer's Gull - Good views of two adult birds, in-flight and sitting on water at Adam Beck. Kumlien's Gull - Eight birds (one adult) at Adam beck, an additional 4 (two adults) above the falls. Bonaparte's Gulls - Surprisingly, not very many. An underestimate would be about 400 or so birds, mostly at the Whirlpool. Little Gull - One adult cavorting with the Bonies at the Whirlpool and one adult above the Falls. No Glaucs, but it got really miserable and rainy toward the latter part of the day - may have dampened my spirits (pun intended!) There was also a Peregrine perched on one of the wires at the Hamilton lift bridge. Good Birding, Lev Frid Maple, On _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
