The 33rd Burk's Falls CBC was held on Thursday, December 17 by 13 field
   = observes and one feeder watcher.
   

   The temperatures ranged from minus 22 C at dawn to a high of minus 15
   C.=   During the day of the count Lake Bernard went from almost
   completely= open to fully fozen over.
   

   A total of 30 species of birds were oberved, down from the average of
   36= for the past decade, but the same as the all time average.  A total
   o= f 1359 individuals which is half the average over the past decade.
   

   Specific Comments:
   

   Lack of winter foods, berries, cones, nuts resulted in low number for
   ma= ny species.
   

   Bald Eagle - two adults
   

   Belted Kingfisher - one - third time
   

   Gray Jay - one - populations are declining in region
   

   Blue Jay - 65 - lowest since 1999
   

   Red-beasted Nuthatch - 13 - lowest since 1999
   

   White-beasted Nuthatch - 22 -average
   

   Golden-crowned Kingle - none - first miss since 1985
   

   Northern Cardinal 1 - at feeder in Burk's Falls
   

   White-crowned Sparrow - 1 - at feeder south of Sundridge - 2nd time
   = 

   Common Grackle - 1 - at feeder in Magneawan
   

   Pine Grosbeak - 23
   

   Common Redpoll - 4
   

   American Goldfinch - 4
   

   Evening Grosbeak - 97 - highest since 1999
