Hello birders.
Yesterday Pat Hogge and I birded 50 Point Conservation Area. At the tip of
the park that juts into Lake Ontario were a great many diving ducks including
Common Merganser, Golden Eye, Long-tailed, Harlequin and White Winged Scoter
plus others I couldn't identify because my eyes were tearing up so bad and my
scope kept blowing over. It is extremely windy and cold at the point so dress
in your down-filled, fleece, thermal and sheepskin clothing, preferably all at
once and before you leave the car. Sorry for the delay in posting; I have
finally thawed out today. Also in the park: a hardy Kestrel at the tip and a
Cooper's Hawk beside the baseball diamond. The tip is accessed by the interior
road. Fifty Point Conservation Area is located at 1479 Baseline Rd. Winona just
west of Grimbsy, a stone's throw off the QEW. Exit at 50 Road (or where you see
the flocks and flocks of ducks and geese flying back and forth).
