Point Pelee National Park Migration Update for May 4, 2010 Another beautiful day greeted birders in the Park this morning. Bright and sunny. Quite slow for migration though. Just a few species and numbers taking part in a “reverse migration” at the tip. However there was a CLAY-COLOURED SPARROW found on the east side where it was a bit sheltered from the west breezes. Also noted there was a GAMBELL’S variety of WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW. In the tip woods, just a few warbler species, BLACKBURNIAN, NASHVILLE,BLACK-THROATED GREEN, REDSTART, NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH. Just near the tram loop down at the tip area, a pair of WHITE-EYED VIREO were found. A few other migrants were scattered there and throughout the Park. In Tildens Woods several SCARLET TANAGERS, BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, and TENNESSEE WARBLER. A report of a CANADA WARBLER from Delaurier Trail, and one also on the Botham trail. It was reported that in the parking lot of Dunes picnic area, there was still at least one PRAIRIE WARBLER, and a BLUE-WINGED WARBLER. No reports yet whether the YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, PROTHONOTARY,WORM-EATING or KENTUCKY WARBLERS seen yesterday have been re-found. Outside the Park a number of shorebirds have been reported coming and going from the horse paddock area just east of the Park entrance on the E concession, the so-called “Dike Road”. As well, yesterday afternoon 6 WILLET and a SEDGE WREN were found at the Hillman Conservation property.
