The extensive Mudflats are home to increasing numbers of shorebirds. 180
birds of 10 species
This morning highlights include:
2 Wilson's Phalaropes
1 Black-bellied Plover
130 Lesser Yellowlegs
8 Solitary Sandpipers
Gulls/Terns 8 species
13 Little Gulls present and still performing courtship displays
254 Bonaparte's Gulls
11 Caspian Terns
and nesting Herring Gulls
Waterfowl 8 species: including 38 Wood Ducks, 32 Green-winged Teal
Did not look for warblers this morning. The Marsh Wrens around the platform
were quite vocal this morning.
Bonniebrae point at 8:45 this morning.
The near perfect viewing conditions allowed for great views of the thousands
of waterfowl staging offshore. Also the ghost midge hatch which the Little
and Bonaparte's Gulls forage on appeared to be sw of the point due to the
rafts of feeding gulls.
large numbers of Red-breasted and Long-tailed ducks offshore 1500+ per
species

39 Common Loons
1 Red-throated Loon
4 Little Gulls
437 Bonaparte's Gulls
Also active colony of Bank Swallows at the point were starting the escavate
this years nests.
Directions
Oshawa Second Marsh
Exit from the 401 at the Harmony Rd. Exit(419) in Oshawa. Go south on
Farewell St. Colonel Sam Drive. Turn East onto Colonel Sam Drive and follow
to the parking lot at the GM Headquarters. Park in the west parking lot
close to the marsh. The east (GM) platform is visible from the NW corner of
the lot.

Bonniebrae point in situated on Lake Ontario between Thickson's woods and
Oshawa Second Marsh.
The point is at the western end of Lakeview Park.
From the 401 Take either exit 417 Simcoe st (eastbound only) or 418 Ritson
road. Take either Ritson rd. or Simcoe St south from the 401. Where Ritson
and Simcoe st intersect (firehall on North side of intersection), take
Simcoe st south towards the lake. At Oshawa Harbour take a right onto
Lakeview Park Ave. Turn left on either Kluane Ave or Birchcliffe ave. Both
these streets end at the Bonniebrae point parking lot.
