A correction to the directions for those interested in the Watford lagoons. South of Watford you will turn west (right) on Churchill Line, not Confederation Line. My apologies for the link to the photos - you have to be a Yahoo member to access them. I am working on getting them up onto a publicly accessible website today for those interested.
Peter -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Peter Burke Sent: Thursday, May 06, 2010 9:42 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Ontbirds] hybrid calidrid at Watford Lagoons May 5-6 Today I photographed a calidrid sandpiper that seemed to me to be showing characters of a hybrid, with one of the parents a Dunlin. The other species I'm not sure of, it seemed too big for a White-rumped combination and didn't show much other than side streaking to be linked to that species. I'd love to hear any opinions about the bird. Otherwise the ponds are great for shorebirds - over 220 Lesser Yellowlegs, a Long-billed Dowitcher, 9 Wilson's Phalaropes. A flock of over 250 Lapland Longspurs were to the southwest of the cells in a corn field along Confederation Line. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/midd_elgi_observations/photos/album/1610971037 /pic/126608443/view?picmode= <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/midd_elgi_observations/photos/album/161097103 7/pic/126608443/view?picmode=&mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=1&count=20&dir=asc > &mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=1&count=20&dir=asc The bird was present yesterday and today at the lagoons. To reach them go south off of Hwy. 402 on Nauvoo Rd. to the village of Watford. Go south through it to Confederation Line and go right (west) about 500 m to the lagoon entrance on your right (north) side. There are two ponds, the back cell is great for shorebirds at the moment.
