Although most of the birding activity locally is concentrated at Prince Edward
Point this time of year (see Terry Sprague's PEPt Birding Festival reports)
there have been some highlights closer to Kingston.

The Brant migration was in full swing last Monday; 400 on W. Brother Island,
650 over Wilton and 1600 off Lemoine Point. On Amherst there continues to be a
variety of shorebirds including 3 Ruddy Turnstones and 4 Short-billed
Dowitchers last weekend. The Marbled Godwit was last reported on the 14th. At
the lagoons were another 8 Short-billed Dowitchers and 8 Black Terns last
Friday.

Other good birds were a Red-headed Woodpecker at Buck Lake from May 8 to 11, a
Pine Siskin at an Elginburg feeder on the 12th, a Black-crowned Night-Heron on
the 14th and a Great Egret on the 19th, both seen at Collin's Bay and a Sedge
Wren on the KFN property on Amherst last Saturday.

The KFN does their annual 24 hour spring round-up this weekend and as always we
are hoping for good weather and good birds.

Cheers,

Peter Good
