Beverly Wannick with 6th and 7th-graders, parents, and teachers from William Davis School in Windsor stopped by in the morning. Weather: Mostly clear and warm with a high of 20C. Wind started off NW 8-10 km/hr briefly turning to SW mid-morning and then back to light NW in the afternoon. Raptor Observations: A steady movement of Sharp-shins plus Turkey Vultures with small numbers of Harriers, Red-tails, and Kestrels mixed. Not as great as expected although rainy weather to the NE has finally slowed the flight despite good local conditions. The now local juv. Osprey plus the resident pair of ad. Bald Eagles were putting on good shows though with the former making good use of a 2 lb. Goldfish at the south end of the marsh and the latter bathing in the water at the "Eagle Stumps" in the middle of the marsh. Non-raptor Observations: Notables included 5 sp. of Warblers (2 Nashville, Orange-crowned, 6 Yellow-rumped, Blackpoll, C. Yellowthroat) amongst the Kinglets and Sparrows, along with Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and 8 Pine Siskins. Blue Jays still moving in decent numbers with 5,710 tallied. Yesterday's Greater Yellowlegs extended its stay to 2 days giving some company to the 2 long-staying Solitary Sandpipers on the pond. Predictions: Sunny with NW winds 20 km/hr. High of 21C. With good local conditions combined with the rain moving off towards Atlantic Canada there should be raptors on the move tomorrow. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jim Pawlicki ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
